Work #337 "Winter Sea (Rainbow)" A winter seascape painted from the northernmost cliff of Ikitsuki Island, Hirado, Nagasaki Prefecture. I painted this while my whole body was covered with spray. Because of the strong winds, I taped the edge of the work and covered it with a mat. (Oil crayon (oil pastel) on handmade Japanese paper KOOSAIHO, an original drawing method, uses nine colors of oil crayon (oil pastel), adding white to the eight colors of the rainbow (the seven colors of the rainbow and red and purple). The artist rubs one color on the belly of the finger, overlaps the colors in a unique order, smashes them with oil, rubs, and scrapes to create depth in the layering of colors and bring them closer to the colors of the natural world. The red bridge across the northernmost part of Nagasaki Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan, leads to the island of Hirado. Across the bridge, you will see the sky-blue bridge, which leads you to Ikitsuki Island. He fell in love with the nature of Ikitsuki and moved to the island, where he has continued sketching ever since. All of his works are one-of-a-kind. The impression changes depending on the location (light source) of the viewer due to the layering effect of rainbow colors.
